That’s twice the range of my Wrangler, and given how long my gas station stops take, they’re sure getting closer to a comparable trip time.
That’s disregarding the fact that if I had the Tesla I’d take the interstate anyway, making the trip many times shorter than my usual state highway road trips.

I like the blue, it's a good color on a S..

The Fusion is strong with that Model S.

300 miles is good enough for me in an electric car. And I like the looks of the S more than the 3. Worth looking into used as a future purchase. Hope the build quality on the S is better than the 3 comparing 2020 models.

Good styling improvement

Shit I’m just happy if my economy sized car can get close to 300 a tank!

People are still gonna claim their commute is 401 miles a day so electric cars just aren’t there yet

Not bad at all. Obviously the long change times are still not ideal compared to tanking up, but an extra 100 miles greatly reduces the likelihood of running out before you reach you destination, and makes it more likely you’d be stopping to eat or something anyways, allowing you to get at least a small bit more without interrupting your trip.

I would rather wait for real world test, Tesla seems to be usually quite generously noted on EPA mileage tests : https://insideevs.com/news/407807/eletric-car-real-world-range-tested/

My gf lives 395 miles away, so this is finally a Tesla I can consider

I mean I put 4,000 miles on the van in just about a week...

Dayum! Where did you go? You do the gumball cross country or something?
![]() 06/16/2020 at 00:39 |

Nah, just work.
Denver to LA and back, then Denver to Kansas City to rural Missouri to rural Oklahoma and back.
I used to be able to get a round-trip ticket to about 2/3 of the country for less than $250 with a week’s notice. Between flight costs, reduced schedules, and the associated health risks, I’m stuck on the road a lot more now.

So there’s an interesting thing about their methodology: they’re extrapolating from a 19.4 mile route on track (driven three times for >100 kWh, two times for 60-100 kWh, and one time for <60 kWh, from the wall charger (note that charging losses mean that those kWh figures can be higher than the battery capacity) ), only using a full charge from zero to get the total kWh.
I’m not entirely sure what the impact of this would be on a range test.
That said, I suspect the real range problem is... they’re doing the test at 10-15 °C ambient, with the cabin at 21 °C... and the tested Tesla cars don’t have heat pumps, instead using resistance heat, which is less efficient . (The Model Y is Tesla’s first car with one.) There won’t be much cabin heating demand at those temperatures, and they’re preconditioning on grid power, but there will be some demand...

Y’ all need an eye test. It is similar in the fact that it is a 4 door sedan, but the styling is way different.

Your use case is... unique.
But yeah, we put 25k on our family-mobile every year (heading to northern New Mexico this weekend).

Wow, thank god for cruise control. What kind of work makes you drive that much? I know truckers do that much, that sienna is putting in work. I've only put 700 on both my cars in the past 4 month.

Agreed, I was just trying to be that guy. I’d probably be the best candidate for the van plus a really short-range EV though (ahem, Fiat).

I mean I used to just spend my life on Frontier flights. I do environmental consulting for commercial lending, and after 13 years I still don’t know why it’s a national industry rather than regional.

Lots of people would do great with 2 cars, but almost
everyone has one vehicle they use and try to have a vehicle that will work for 99% of their use cases.
